Nightmare Before Christmas Party

Here is how I made my own DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Party. A lot of work went into this DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Party for all my little Nightmares. I settled my party right around Halloween, The perfect time to have a DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Party!

This post will be an overall summary of what went into designing and making the party come to life. Decorations

Backdrop

my party backdrop was inspired from a post I found on Instagram! they had the most amazing black and white stripes for their party. I wanted to imitate that look for my event too! So to make the look I used black and white streamers from the Dollar Tree. The Banner is from my shop! you can purchase it here! The banner says “This is\n Halloween”. I picked up some floating ghosts from the dollar tree too. Nice and simple for such a great impact.

Party Table

My main party table was so much fun to put together. I found the orange and black stripe table cloth from the dollar section of target. The super cute pumpkin table runner is from party city. I pushed the table all the way up to the backdrop to keep the stripes going. I had a prize table too! this one I decorated with a basic black rectangle table cloth and a round white table cloth from the dollar tree. Right before the party I cut up the round white one to look like a spider web. I love the effect and how it turned out!

Table Decorations

Since my party was a real party this time I kept the table mostly empty to accommodate my guest dishes. My main centerpiece was my Sally Jar luminaries, which I turned into flower vases for the party. You can make your own using this tutorial. Most of my other decorations came from the Dollar Tree. Super simple and on budget. My favorite thing to purchase right now are things that work for multiple holidays. Like my Pumpkin Centerpiece is going to make a splash at my Thanksgiving this year! Since my theme was Nightmare before Christmas I used my printable Christmas gift cupcake liners, which in my opinion turned out amazing! I love how they looked with the bright Halloween frosting. My plates are from Party City’s 25th Nightmare before Christmas party line!

Food

DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Party Menu:

• Halloween Cupcakes! (Publix)
• Caramel Corn (fresh from the farmers market)
• Chips
• Kids Chicken

I wanted to keep this party nice and simple and let my guests get creative with their food. Something fun to plan for your own party is a potluck party with a spooky food prize.

Fashion

This party fashion was so much fun to plan! To match our Nightmare before Christmas theme my husband and I dressed up as Jack and Sally. For Guine’s second Halloween she is dressing up as what we thing Jack and Sally’s baby would look like!

I found this amazing outfit on wish and customizing it to exactly what I was looking for using a sharpie. The best part of the evening was when Guine first saw Aaron she was like… NO! and she wouldn’t even look at him. Of course he had a bald cap and full make up on. I got all the cuddles. It doesn’t get any easier than this DIY Sally Jar Luminaries to make a spooky addition to your Nightmare Before Christmas Party! I loved how this DIY Project came out! You can either use them as décor aka tea lights or candles, or you can put them to use holding silverware or flowers. Either way they will bring compliments and questions!

Can’t I Just buy a Sally Jar Luminaries?

You can’t at the moment. If you do find one available for sale let me know!!! But for now DIY seems to be the only way to have some of your own. I hope my tutorial helps make it as easy as possible.

Are DIY Sally Jar Luminaries Expensive?

The homemade Sally Jar Luminaries are made using only 7 Items. All you need is:

Supplies:

• 3 glass jars, for mine I used pickles, and two spaghetti jars (one Alfrado and one red sauce)
• Silver Tissue Paper from the dollar tree
• Modge Podge
• Sally Jar Printable (Free Template from me)
• Black paint (I got mine at the dollar tree)
• sticker paper (you can get postage paper from an office supply store, that’s what I used)
• Scissors
• Paint brush

How To Make DIY Sally Jar Luminaries Tutorial

Time:  Start your Project plenty of time before you event. Should take about 1 hour. I made mine during the duration of Moana the movie.

Instructions:

1. 1. Make sure your glasses are clean (no food) and have most of the labels off
   2. Prep your tissue paper by cutting it into about 1 inch squares.
   3. Paint a bit of Modge podge onto your first glass
   4. Apply tissue paper one square at a time applying a bit of Modge podge on top to seal it
   5. Once you have covered about 2 inches of area on your first jar, set it down to dry and repeat on the second jar, then the third.
   6. Keep rotating your jars to make the process faster until all the jars are covered.
   7. print out this template onto sticker paper and cut out
   8. once the jars are completely dry apply the stickers
   9. Paint the lids to the jars with your black paint.
   10. while lids are drying dab your paintbrush with black paint and lightly brush the silver tissue paper to create a dingy aged effect.
   11. Apply a second coat of black paint to the lids.
   12. Once everything is dry you are finished.
   13. Enjoy your Sally Jar Luminaries, by adding a candle.
