Before my daughter was born, my husband and I were blessed to visit the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan, where I even purchased a stuffed animal Totoro that my daughter now enjoys. I knew that by age two she would be able to recognize her favorite movie characters, and I began planning… a Totoro party would be a big hit, for her, me, and guests alike! Food (100% Vegan) Our Family is Vegan Our family is vegan — baby too! So we would never want to serve animal products at an event we are hosting. After checking a few locally owned vegan restaurants, we opted for something cheaper, easier, and something that would be familiar to our guests. Chipotle has great options for vegans, and their party takeout was stellar! I ordered online a few days in advance, and my husband picked the food up about thirty minutes before party time. My mom actually prepared the spanish rice herself, just so we had enough to share. We had about 20 guests, but ordered for 15, and had so much leftover we ate Chipotle for five days straight! It was very affordable. The catering containers from Chipotle are also dishwasher/microwave safe. We kept them afterwards! My Nanna’s Christmas cookies were always something I looked forward to most at Christmas time. Since her original recipe wasn’t vegan, I simply replaced the egg with a flax egg and the cookies turned out exactly the same. These Ghibli cookies were an easy treat to make, and a hit with my family who remembered Nanna’s recipe, but any sugar cut-out cookie recipe will work. Two additional sides we offered were Abe’s Vegan Mini Muffins, which I picked up from Whole Foods, and fruit. I topped each muffin with a Ghibli Cupcake topper to put them over the top! The clear vases I used to arrange them were old pasta and apple sauce jars. Instead of a photo booth with props, I opted to hand paint a huge Totoro. No one would mistake what the theme was with him standing there! I abducted a gigantic cardboard box from my work’s recycling bin and set to work. First, draw the outline of Totoro and use a box cutter to cut. Afterwards, start with painting the white belly followed by the eyes. Paint the gray and black very last. His leaf hat was from a set of plastic leaves ordered off Amazon. These leaves would be great table decorations for a Legend of Zelda or forest themed party too! How I Created a Magical Totoro DIY Party!
Ever since I conceived my daughter, I hoped she would fall in love with the magic of Studio Ghibli just as I did. Studio Ghibli is a Japanese film making company who turns stories into art, displayed through animations that are loved by all ages. Before my daughter was born, my husband and I were blessed to visit the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan, where I even purchased a stuffed animal Totoro that my daughter now enjoys. I knew that by age two she would be able to recognize her favorite movie characters, and I began planning… a Totoro party would be a big hit, for her, me, and guests alike!

Food (100% Vegan)

Our Family is Vegan

Our family is vegan — baby too! So we would never want to serve animal products at an event we are hosting. After checking a few locally owned vegan restaurants, we opted for something cheaper, easier, and something that would be familiar to our guests. Chipotle has great options for vegans, and their party takeout was stellar! I ordered online a few days in advance, and my husband picked the food up about thirty minutes before party time.

The super cute pumpkin table runner is from party city. I pushed the table all the way up to the backdrop to keep the stripes going. I had a prize table too! this one I decorated with a basic black rectangle table cloth and a round white table cloth from the dollar tree. Right before the party I cut up the round white one to look like a spider web. I love the effect and how it turned out! Table Decorations Since my party was a real party this time I kept the table mostly empty to accommodate my guest dishes. Nightmare Before Christmas Party

Here is how I made my own DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Party. A lot of work went into this DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Party for all my little Nightmares. I settled my party right around Halloween, The perfect time to have a DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Party!

This post will be an overall summary of what went into designing and making the party come to life. Decorations

Backdrop

my party backdrop was inspired from a post I found on Instagram! they had the most amazing black and white stripes for their party. I wanted to imitate that look for my event too! So to make the look I used black and white streamers from the Dollar Tree. The Banner is from my shop! you can purchase it here! The banner says “This is\n Halloween”. I picked up some floating ghosts from the dollar tree too. Nice and simple for such a great impact.

Party Table

My main party table was so much fun to put together. I found the orange and black stripe table cloth from the dollar section of target. The super cute pumpkin table runner is from party city. I pushed the table all the way up to the backdrop to keep the stripes going. I had a prize table too! this one I decorated with a basic black rectangle table cloth and a round white table cloth from the dollar tree. Right before the party I cut up the round white one to look like a spider web. I love the effect and how it turned out!

Since my party was a real party this time I kept the table mostly empty to accommodate my guest dishes. My main centerpiece was my Sally Jar luminaries, which I turned into flower vases for the party. You can make your own using this tutorial. Most of my other decorations came from the Dollar Tree. This party fashion was so much fun to plan! To match our Nightmare before Christmas theme my husband and I dressed up as Jack and Sally. For Guine’s second Halloween she is dressing up as what we thing Jack and Sally’s baby would look like!

I found this amazing outfit on wish and customizing it to exactly what I was looking for using a sharpie. The best part of the evening was when Guine first saw Aaron she was like… NO! and she wouldn’t even look at him. Of course he had a bald cap and full make up on. I got all the cuddles. A lot of work went into this DIY Doctor Who Party for all my little Doctor Who fans. This party set up was a future party in the making! Little Eliza just turned one and came to visit us here in Florida! Sadly the party wasn’t ready for her so I made it for her 2nd Birthday! I chose a Galaxy theme for my DIY Doctor Who Party to add a little Whimsy and color to the set up. This post will be an overall summary of what went into designing and making the party come to life. If you have questions or want me to go into more detail on specifics, let me know in the comments and I would be happy to make a blog all about it. There will be another post showing where I got everything for the party so you can find it too. Decorations Backdrop The Backdrop of my party set up has been the easiest so far! While party supply shopping I found these wonderful Galaxy tapestries on amazon and it was perfect! I was able to attach it to the wall using push pins. I added adorable yellow gold star garland. They were long so I only used two out of the three I purchased. Very Simple! I loved the effect it had with the Tardis cabinet. The most important part of the backdrop was the Printable Banner you can purchase in my online store. Tablescape This DIY Doctor Who Party table was also the easiest I have had yet. Simple yet effective. The Table was topped the table with three different table cloths from either Dollar Tree or Target (Party Section) topped with silver star confetti from the Dollar Tree. I used my party dishes and found a very pretty mirror plate to add some gold to the table while thrift shopping the weekend before. While doing some party shopping I found this throwback from when I was young, Gold Small Star Garland. I wrapped the garland around some of the display plates and to the area around the Tardis Cabinet. It was a nice easy way to make your dishes look themed. To hold the cutlery I used the recycled vegetable cans from my last party because I feel they still fit the theme. If you didn’t already know this about me, I am an UCF Alumni with a bachelors in Fine Art and Animation. So of course I have a Human Skull model on hand. So I threw that on the table to highlight a few episodes of Doctor Who. I used the Navi Lights from the Legend of Zelda set up to wrap around my Tardis with some fabric I had on hand. Just scraps of clear shimmer fabric from when I made Tinkerbell wings for Dapper Day. Food I usually only do about 6 different party foods to show off (and fill) the table but for some reason we ended up with 8. I wanted something easy and simple to eat for the main dish. Of course! Pizza. I’m going to make a pizza and decorated it like a Tardis, or a Dalek or something. Yeah right.. Turned around at it was time to set up the party. Frozen Pizza it is 🙂 I chose a 5 cheese plain pizza and opted to add the pepperiness in a “spacey” pattern. It ended up being a spiral. Oh well. Next fun thing were the DIY Doctor Who Party Vortex cupcakes. They were originally meant to be beautiful galaxy cupcakes. But for some reason (I totally learned why just this past weekend) my frosting keeps falling flat. So thats why they are now Vortex cupcakes. Still cool with the sprinkles and still tasted really good. I chose Blue velvet cake mix to add a little more space to them. Those were the main events for the party and I’m going to make making a Cooking with Me video on the making of all this party food. The Drinks on the other hand, worked really well with the display. My Husband collects decanters and I decided to borrow them for the table. They paired so well with the fancy plastic cups from the Dollar Tree. DIY Doctor Who Party Menu: Spiral Pizza– Frozen 5 Cheese Pizza with double layer Pepperonis placed in a spiral. Vortex Cupcakes- Galaxy Cupcakes failed and turned into vortex cupcakes Chocolate Dipped Bananas– Frozen Bananas dipped in chocolate topped with blue and gold Sugar Gel Fish sticks with Custard– Snickerdoodle Cookies with Banana Dream Pudding Galaxy Lollipops: Sparko Sweets Galaxy Lollipops Spiral Designs with Space Foil Gift Pack, 10 Lollipops, Handcrafted in USA, 1 Pound Chocolate Stars: I used a star silicone mold and Milk Chocolate chips Jelly Babies: Jumbo size Gummy Bears (Dollar Tree) Drinks: Blue Hawaiian punch Artwork & Invites: All the artwork was created by me to show off for this Party Set up and everything is printable and available in my shop or as a bundle on my Etsy. Tardis Invitation & Thank you card DIY Favors & Gifts: DIY Sonic Bubbles I had a lot of fun with favors to say the least. If you have been to the dollar tree recently (Spring 2018) they have these small bubble vials with little circle stickers on top. I snagged a few of those to make some custom stickers for Favors.  You can also get them from this Amazon link (Bullet Bubble Tube (1.4 x 5.1 x 1 inches) (Orange)I present Sonic Bubbles! this Printable comes with three kinds of sonic screwdriver stickers to apply to your bubble tubes. I originally tried it with my sticker paper but it had a hard time sticking once the bubbles started to get used so I coated the whole sticker in clear packing tape and it worked! so cute! I love them! DIY Toy Blocks For this party I decided to make a little DIY gift Idea using this DIY Toy Blocks Printable. You just need 8, 2 inch wooden Blocks (I found mine at Michaels) and some Modge Podge. The printable has a tiny bit of wiggle room to make them line up. The Blocks turned out so cute! Im going to be making a little tutorial for everyone so don’t you worry! This was a easy and adorable little gift idea for the new Timelord in your life. Here is a Amazon link for 16 blocks! enough to make two set! (WOOD BLOCKS (16PCS. WITH FREE COLORED MARKERS), 2″ WOODEN CRAFT BLOCKS, HARDWOODS, MADE IN USA, BY CROSSROAD SALES) Fashion DIY Doctor Who Party fashion is so much fun to play with. My fashion was a little casual for this party. I wore my new favorite “The Stars, cant do it, not today” tee from Nerd Under the Stairs. Paired with a mid length yellow pleated skirt, WITH POCKETS!. Over that for my cooking and most of my set up I got to wear the beautiful Tardis Apron from Made from Oz on Etsy! Both of these shops are so amazing and I feel you should totally go check them out! My Guinevere had an equally casual outfit for the DIY Doctor Who Party. I found these adorable puffy Royal Blue top with Gold spots at my Local Once upon a child. The yellow shorts were also found during that shopping trip too. So many fun possibilities for a little Timebaby. I topped off the whole outfit with a hat of my very own. It’s a little Tardis top hat that Bought maybe… 5 years ago. The light still worked and everything! I attached it to a elastic and placed it on her head. With some back and forth I finally achieved some photos. She’s starting to get into that always moving no matter what phase. ]]> How to Plan your own DIY Doctor Who Party

Here is how I made my own DIY Doctor Who Party. A lot of work went into this DIY Doctor Who Party for all my little Doctor Who fans. This party set up was a future party in the making! Little Eliza just turned one and came to visit us here in Florida! Sadly the party wasn’t ready for her so I made it for her 2nd Birthday! I chose a Galaxy theme for my DIY Doctor Who Party to add a little Whimsy and color to the set up.

This post will be an overall summary of what went into designing and making the party come to life. If you have questions or want me to go into more detail on specifics, let me know in the comments and I would be happy to make a blog all about it. There will be another post showing where I got everything for the party so you can find it too.

Decorations

Backdrop

The Backdrop of my party set up has been the easiest so far! While party supply shopping I found these wonderful Galaxy tapestries on amazon and it was perfect! I was able to attach it to the wall using push pins. I added adorable yellow gold star garland. They were long so I only used two out of the three I purchased. Very Simple! I loved the effect it had with the Tardis cabinet. The most important part of the backdrop was the Printable Banner you can purchase in my online store.

Tablescape

This DIY Doctor Who Party table was also the easiest I have had yet. Simple yet effective. The Table was topped the table with three different table cloths from either Dollar Tree or Target (Party Section) topped with silver star confetti from the Dollar Tree. I used my party dishes and found a very pretty mirror plate to add some gold to the table while thrift shopping the weekend before. While doing some party shopping I found this throwback from when I was young, Gold Small Star Garland. I wrapped the garland around some of the display plates and to the area around the Tardis Cabinet. It was a nice easy way to make your dishes look themed.

To hold the cutlery I used the recycled vegetable cans from my last party because I feel they still fit the theme. If you didn’t already know this about me, I am an UCF Alumni with a bachelors in Fine Art and Animation. So of course I have a Human Skull model on hand. So I threw that on the table to highlight a few episodes of Doctor Who. I used the Navi Lights from the Legend of Zelda set up to wrap around my Tardis with some fabric I had on hand. Just scraps of clear shimmer fabric from when I made Tinkerbell wings for Dapper Day.

Food

I usually only do about 6 different party foods to show off (and fill) the table but for some reason we ended up with 8. I wanted something easy and simple to eat for the main dish. Of course! Pizza. I’m going to make a pizza and decorated it like a Tardis, or a Dalek or something. Yeah right.. Turned around at it was time to set up the party. Frozen Pizza it is 🙂 I chose a 5 cheese plain pizza and opted to add the pepperiness in a “spacey” pattern. It ended up being a spiral. Oh well.

Next fun thing were the DIY Doctor Who Party Vortex cupcakes. They were originally meant to be beautiful galaxy cupcakes. But for some reason (I totally learned why just this past weekend) my frosting keeps falling flat. So thats why they are now Vortex cupcakes. Still cool with the sprinkles and still tasted really good. I chose Blue velvet cake mix to add a little more space to them. Those were the main events for the party and I’m going to make making a Cooking with Me video on the making of all this party food.

The Drinks on the other hand, worked really well with the display. My Husband collects decanters and I decided to borrow them for the table. They paired so well with the fancy plastic cups from the Dollar Tree.

DIY Doctor Who Party Menu:

  • Spiral Pizza– Frozen 5 Cheese Pizza with double layer Pepperonis placed in a spiral.
  • Vortex Cupcakes- Galaxy Cupcakes failed and turned into vortex cupcakes
  • Chocolate Dipped Bananas– Frozen Bananas dipped in chocolate topped with blue and gold Sugar Gel
  • Fish sticks with Custard– Snickerdoodle Cookies with Banana Dream Pudding
  • Galaxy Lollipops: Sparko Sweets Galaxy Lollipops Spiral Designs with Space Foil Gift Pack, 10 Lollipops, Handcrafted in USA, 1 Pound
  • Chocolate Stars: I used a star silicone mold and Milk Chocolate chips
  • Jelly Babies: Jumbo size Gummy Bears (Dollar Tree)
  • Drinks: Blue Hawaiian punch

DIY Favors & Gifts:

DIY Sonic Bubbles

I had a lot of fun with favors to say the least. If you have been to the dollar tree recently (Spring 2018) they have these small bubble vials with little circle stickers on top. I snagged a few of those to make some custom stickers for Favors.  You can also get them from this Amazon link (Bullet Bubble Tube (1.4 x 5.1 x 1 inches) (Orange)I present Sonic Bubbles! this Printable comes with three kinds of sonic screwdriver stickers to apply to your bubble tubes. I originally tried it with my sticker paper but it had a hard time sticking once the bubbles started to get used so I coated the whole sticker in clear packing tape and it worked! so cute! I love them!

DIY Toy Blocks

For this party I decided to make a little DIY gift Idea using this DIY Toy Blocks Printable. You just need 8, 2 inch wooden Blocks (I found mine at Michaels) and some Modge Podge. The printable has a tiny bit of wiggle room to make them line up. The Blocks turned out so cute! Im going to be making a little tutorial for everyone so don’t you worry! This was a easy and adorable little gift idea for the new Timelord in your life. Here is a Amazon link for 16 blocks! enough to make two set! (WOOD BLOCKS (16PCS. Fashion

DIY Doctor Who Party fashion is so much fun to play with. My fashion was a little casual for this party. I wore my new favorite “The Stars, cant do it, not today” tee from Nerd Under the Stairs. Paired with a mid length yellow pleated skirt, WITH POCKETS!.

Over that for my cooking and most of my set up I got to wear the beautiful Tardis Apron from Made from Oz on Etsy! Both of these shops are so amazing and I feel you should totally go check them out!

My Guinevere had an equally casual outfit for the DIY Doctor Who Party. I found these adorable puffy Royal Blue top with Gold spots at my Local Once upon a child. The yellow shorts were also found during that shopping trip too. So many fun possibilities for a little Timebaby. I topped off the whole outfit with a hat of my very own. It’s a little Tardis top hat that Bought maybe… 5 years ago. The light still worked and everything! I attached it to a elastic and placed it on her head. With some back and forth I finally achieved some photos. She’s starting to get into that always moving no matter what phase.
